Cessna N6242F is a brand new 2008 Skyhawk 172SP (G1000 WAAS) available for rental to pilots and student pilots at Diamond Aviation at San Carlos Airport (KSQL). It provides features that became available on the Skyhawk only in 2007 or 2008.

These new features include:

Garmin GFC700 Automatic Flight Control System (AFCS) - The GFC700 replaces the previous KAP140 autopilot and eliminates the need to enter altitudes and altimeter settings twice. The GFC700 also provides Control Wheel Steering (CWS), a Go-Around (GA) Switch, and Flight Director.

WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) - This aircraft contains dual GIA-63W Nav/Coms, which are WAAS-certified and allow you to fly WAAS (Lateral-Precision with Vertical (LPV) guidance) approaches. The WAAS system is a set of approximately 25 ground reference stations that transmit messages correcting errors in the GPS satellite system. WAAS improves the accuracy of GPS from 15 meters to less than 3 meters.

Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT™) - This system replicates what you would see out the cockpit window on a clear day and enhances the display by visually highlighting terrain, traffic, and obstacles. It provides unprecedented situational awareness, especially if you are flying to an unfamiliar airport, flying at night, or flying approaches, departures, and arrivals in instrument conditions.
